Critter Canyon

November 3 - 12, 2023

Welcome to Western Development Tract 8271 - Better known as Stubb’s Pass and amongst locals as “Critter Canyon”. This narrow strip of disincorporated land rests between two short mountain ranges. The canyon’s natural caverns were once considered an ideal spelunking destination. Downtown critter was also a sufficient resting spot for travelers. Due to the Critter Invasion of 1993 tourism declined and residents were eventually resettled elsewhere. Access from the outside world is discouraged as the entrance to the canyon has been barricaded and remains sealed to this day. The land is vacant with the exception of a seasonal flock of fowl and a few holdouts who have decided to assimilate into life amongst the critters. Climbing down into the canyon the landscape appears slightly stale but unbothered. The critters stay hidden, buried into the hillsides. Their existence goes mostly unnoticed yet their song remains glaringly present. A deafening hum blankets over the rocky terrain, weaving through abandoned structures and tapering out to a faint static as you leave the canyon’s corridor.
